all about emma david
Emma David is a multimedia artist primarily working in wood, ceramics, and a variety of different paints. She was born in Dana Point, California, and grew up on the East Coast. Emma is a VCUarts student working towards a BFA in Craft/Material Studies with a double minor in Art History and Painting and Printmaking and is expected to graduate in May of 2025. Before coming to school Emma worked in ink and graphite and this created a foundation and confidence in illustration, which increased her interest in craft when declaring a major. Her work uses color and illustration to explore contrasting themes of change and comfort.
Growing up, she spent a lot of time outside around water, bugs, and fish. She pulls from those memories for her work. Experimenting throughout her process helps her to learn more about her material. While illustration has always been at the core of her process, working hands-on with the material through wood and ceramics has expanded the canvas out of 2D and created a new space to create. Currently, Emma is experimenting with the combination of fine woodworking and ceramics. During her undergraduate studies, Emma has had the opportunity to display her work in both solo and curated group exhibitions. After graduation, Emma plans to take a year to travel and apply to workshops in craft schools before returning to graduate school to further her education in the arts.
